Best way to use BOMs for made-to-order shirts?

I'm so excited to have found this plugin because I think it will be a great solution for me.

I sell t-shirts and hoodies with my custom artwork using DTF transfers. I keep a small stock of blank apparel and heat transfers on hand and press the orders as they come in. Tracking the stock of a completed product is not helpful to me- I need to track the apparel and the transfers themselves.

Let's say I have the following:

Dog T-Shirt
Black, White
S, M, L

Dog Hoodie
Black, White
S, M, L

Cat T-Shirt
Blue, Red
S, M, L

Cat Hoodie
Blue, Red
S, M, L

The two dog products will use a simple product part in its BOM, same with cat. But for the variable clothing, what is the best way to set this up? I know I can go in and individually set each variation, but that will become very time consuming as I add more products. I was thinking of setting up a master product for each apparel, setting up a BOM for each variation, and then just adding the transfer in for each design... but I am still not sure the easiest way to handle that.

Thanks for your post. We're happy to know you find ATUM Product Levels useful.

I don't quite understand what you are proposing, but this is the configuration we'd choose in your case:

Create a Variable BOM (or various) for blank apparel. You can either choose to create only one (with variations for color, type of clothing and size), or create two variable BOM products (t-shirts and hoodies) with color and size variations, ...
Create a BOM product for heat transfers.
Create as "variable final products" as you need, in the same way as point 1.
Add the correct linked BOM to each variation in the final product (the point 1 corresponding variant and a heat transfer).

You can use this configuration to track the stock changes of your BOM products, so every time a product is sold, its BOMs stock will be deducted.

You can also get the stock of the final products automatically calculated every time their BOMs stocks are changed by activating the "BOM Stock Control" option.

Thank you so much for your help, José. It didn't occur to me to also make the transfers a variable BOM. I really appreciate your help, I think this will work really well for my setup!
