Assigning Serial Numbers to Orders / Serial Tracking

Hi Pavel,

what we really need here is to be able to assign different serial numbers per product on the same inventory.

Creating a new inventory per product is not scalable, even using a LOT/Batch per product isn't usable at all. We need assign a serial number simply per product, in our case IMEIs of SmartPhones.

Hi! Coming back to the question above, we are also looking for the same solution.
i.e. we sell mobile phones. Each mobile phone has a unique IMEI serial number. So for a certain model of mobile phone ie an iphone 8 white, we have 20 units in stock, but each unit has a unique Serial Number.

Could we manage this with your plugin?

At the moment you would have to create an inventory for each one individually. We are already looking into this option with my senior dev. If we find a solution, it may we’ll be released alongside the ATUM app at the end of 2019 due to the fact it needs an EAN scanner.

The fact is that we are selling mobile phones, so each mobile phone model has a different SKU or UPC with different qty on stock. That's ok!
But for each unit on every model we have a unique Serial number. So on every order we get from a certain SKU, we need to assign a unique Serial Number.
We'd love you have that feature.
We love your product, and do not want to use external plugins to accomplish this assignment.
Is there a way to pay a custom development for this to you?

Even though they use their own supplier creation, you may try it. Fee ATUM should not be in the way. Premium add-ons not sure though.

Hello, we also need as soon as possible to manage serial numbers for our products.
We need to be able to enter a list of serial numbers when the products are stocked (using the EAN scanner or by hand) and follow them until they are invoiced and delivered to the customers. We need to find to which customers a specific S/N have been sold and on the contrary, we need to be able to know which S/N a customer's product have been assigned.
I would suggest to pay a dedicated development. Moreover I am sure we can find several guys interested and willing to pay for this development. For me it is a must have for a stock management system.

Yes, it is a must-have for paid inventory management, but not for a free plugin. Development of this feature and most importantly the maintenance of it will cost you several thousand euros.

I agree with impreza54. The ability to track serial numbers is going to be a critical feature for a lot of customers looking at more advanced inventory management for WooCommerce.

For my example, I bring in used computer hard drives, run them through a testing system, which outputs the results of testing and wiping them to a database we created. We're recording their serial numbers and a bunch of other information about the hard drives. Ideally we want to then add to our inventory, those hard drives that passed the tests, and leave off those that failed. I don't expect this level of integration, but just explaining what we're doing and why we need serial number tracking.

Today, we track serial numbers sold in a Google Spreadsheet, and tie the order number to it. What we want, is the ability to do this all within WooCommerce. If we have an order in the system, we want to be able to edit the order, add serial numbers to line items, and then complete the order. So we'd need a way to track which products in WooCommerce will have serial numbers, and then an option to force serial number entries for each quantity sold of that product before allowing the order to be completed. That way we always have serial numbers recorded if we have the option set to require it for products flagged as having a serial number.

We sell some products that don't have serial numbers, so obviously we don't want to be forced to record a serial number for a product that doesn't have one.

This way from a product support perspective, we can easily search and determine if the serial number is one we sold them right within WooCommerce. On the customer side of things, it would be great for them to be able to login to their account to see their purchase history, and see their serial numbers for themselves, along with any warranty period info tied to the product based on when it was shipped out and the default warranty we provide for that product.

I haven't downloaded your free version yet, I'm just in the research phases of trying to find something that does what we're looking for, or close to it, so then my website developer can attempt to integrate a system like yours with our own database of products we're testing, and have everything update automatically as we sell through the list of serial numbers we've tested.

I would fully expect this to be a premium feature, and would love to be a part of helping you guys map out the development cycle for it, along with testing it if you're serious about adding this feature to your list of premium options.

I am well aware of this and know exactly how important it is for some shops. However, a lot of work needs to be done before we bring this feature out. WooCommerce is very limited and we need to make sure when we bring this feature out, it will not harm the speed of sites nor the UX.

Regarding this matter, I was looking the video of Multiinventory plugin, and there is an option called "Inventory Iteration", where you can configure to use next product in priority order.
Under this use of case, where I have 1 product with serveral serial numbers, do you think that I can configure several product and use Inventory Iteration, to be use as Next product Priority? So I can configure stock 1 unit for every product, so when we get out of stock the system will automatically assign the next one?
Does it work like that?
That would be a perfect case of use of SKU like Serial numbers...

Yes, it works in that way. When the first inventory runs out of stock, it gets the next one available according to the chosen sorting method and filtering the available inventories by location (if you are using this kind of restriction).

But with the solution you propose, you would have only 1 item available for each inventory, so what would you do after every purchase, to restock 1 again to each inventory manually to be available for the next user?

Salva When you have a stock with serial numbers you have all products with different SKU. So you'll never restock a product after it was sold. So i will have always only 1 product per SKU. And there is no need to restock.
In the case of a product return, we should restock it manually.
So after the product with xx2 SKU is sold, next product with xx2 SKU will be available.

The serial number tracking you are describing is not easy to achieve yet. We are planning on introducing this option at later stage. It was already requested by some users selling phones and similar one-serial products.

Hi, we also need this feature: Record serial numbers on each purchase and sale, to be able to track individual warranties and aging for service and support. Notice there might be extended warranty as a sale option.

Thank you very much for your post. As I mentioned above, this feature would need a logging system of all WC actions where WC does not have such a feature and we can not use 3rd parties.

I have included the serial number tracker into a completely separate premium add-on that is in the stage of planning and creating interface design. We hope for it being out in 2020.
