Multi-warehouse order routing

Hi,
I would like to know if the possibility exists to assign orders to the relevant warehouse manually or automatically so we can tell each warehouse the orders they need to fulfill.

Hi @javadh ,

You can do that with BATCH TRACKING enabled (ATUM left menu > Settings > Multi-inventory). Once enabled, you will need to go to the multi-inventory product pages, and assign the same lot/bat number to the relevant warehouse. Then, if you go to WC orders or purchase orders you will be able to filter products by lot/bat number, so the products with the inventory with this lot/bat number will be filtered.

Thanks for your guide. I'm starting a subscription business that acts as a platform. We have hundreds of bakers in my city that produce fresh bread. What I intend to do is to take orders on my site and have the bread delivered to customers from the bakers. I'm thinking about creating each baker as a warehouse and fulfill orders based on the proximity between the baker and the customer. I want to know if you think this add-on is suitable for this scenario.

Hi @javadh ,

You can use the new ATUM Multi-Inventory feature: selectable inventories. If you enable this option (ATUM settings - Multi Inventory - Selectable Inventories) and you activate GeoPrompt (Choose shipping zone restriction mode). The user will be able to choose from which inventory he/she wants to buy.

In checkout, I have added a custom field in which customer can choose their shipping area zone. Is it possible to link the custom checkout shipping zones we have to the corresponding inventory warehouse in ATUM? This way the user wouldn't have to choose their inventory of choice from the frontend, instead the simply choose their shipping zone in the backend, and the script would automatically assign the relevant warehouse to the order depending on the customer's shipping zone.

If you want to restrict by shipping zone automatically, just enable this in ATUM settings and the right warehouses will be used according to your configuration. If you don't use the Selectable Inventories feature, all is handled automatically without the user intervention.
However, this doesn't work with any kind of custom fields you may add to your checkout. It uses WooCommerce's bulit-in shipping system.

Okay, I understand so the plugin will automatically use the right warehouse according to built-in Woocommerce shipping system. So in ATUM configuration, I will be able to choose the right warehouse(s) for each shipping zone?

Exactly. You can assign one or multiple shipping zones to each inventory.

Thanks for the reply. One last question I want to ask is this. Is it possible to enter the stock amount of a product for each of the warehouses so for instance we have the same product in multiple warehouses located in the same shipping zone. When customers order the sku and lets say Warehouse A runs out of stock, will the next order go to warehouse B which still has the sku in stock?

Sure. You can create as many inventories per product as you need. And each inventory has its own stock and can be assigned to one or multiple shipping zones.
Also, multiple inventories within the same product can be assigned to the same shipping zone, so all of them that match with the customer's shipping zone, will be used (so once the first one is depleted will continue getting from the next one in the list if you set it up in that way).

Okay that's fabulous. I read the documentation as you instructed and I now have a pretty good idea of the process. I was hoping there would be a modal similar to the Geo location where customer could enter only their zip code (not their country because we operate in one country only) and see product availability based on their zip code. So maybe you can add this feature in future release.

You can set up our modal (the GeoPrompt) to show only the fields you need. If you don't need the country field, just disable it.
So, if you have shipping zones in WooCommerce that only have zip codes, you can configure the Geoprompt to show only the zip code field and will continue working.

is there any way to display the inventory that order is being fulfilled from in the orders table? we need to know which inventory is assigned to the order

Hi @javadh

Yes, for that you can enable Batch Tracking, it's in Multi-Inventory settings. Just get inside a product with multi-inventories and assign to each one a BATCH number. When you enable this feature you see that in Orders list you will are able to search by BATCH number.

When enabling Multi-inventory for a simple product and managing stock by adding quantity, I get an error in checkout that says we don't have the quantity in stock, sorry for the inconvenience. Meanwhile the quantity I have chosen in cart is less than the quantity in stock. Also in product page I see an error that says the product is out of stock but when I'm logged in as admin it shows in stock.

If I'm not wrong this is a bug that has been solved in last versions related to the reserved stock. We fixed this in Multi-inventory and Product Levels by separate, but we still had this bug when Multi-Inventory and Product Levels worked together.

The way to fix it while we release the new update is to go to: Woocommerce - Settings - Products - Inventory - And leave in white the Hold Stock (minutes) field.

I updated Multi-inventory addon to the latest version but in checkout, I'm still getting the same error as before that says the product is out of stock. Also when I'm logged in as admin, on the product page, the item is shown as "in stock" and the quantity shown is accurate as well which is the same value as I've inserted for the item in backend, but when I logout as admin, on the product page, the item is no longer shown as "in stock" and it says the item is out of stock.
