First of all, congratulations on this great plugin.
Any news about this unit of measurement feature? I thought my situation was a specific one so i wrote my suggestions but it seems a lot of people have the same need. I'll just post the text i prepared anyway and hope you get a better understanding of (at least) my expectations. Let me start that i am building a website for a catering business, so, pre-ordered food for delivery only.
i am in the process of setting up the shop and have suggestions
I watched the youtube video where you set up the raw materials for the t-shirt but the way it was done works best in only a few cases. But if (like in my case) the same raw material (powdered milk for example) is used in many different recipes, it gets really complicated for the shop owner to define the price per serving that suits each individual recipe. Now of course i can calculate and put the purchase price per gram (i chose gram in this case because it is the smallest unit that will be used with powdered milk) based on the - let's say - 50kg bag's price and then define how many grams are needed for each recipe, but the issue with that process is :
1) the extra step of calculation might get confusing and time consuming for a busy shop owner to add and setup future products.
2) all of that calculation and conversion will keep working for as long as the price of the bag stays the same. Once the purchase price changes, which is garanteed to happen often, the shop owner will have to take the time to figure out the new price per gram of his 50kg bag of milk.
My suggestion is to add a few new fields to the raw material section : a unit measurement dropdown (mass in our case), another dropdown that shows only the units filtered by the first dropdown (gram or ton, i chose kilogram in this case), a number field for the quantity (let’s say 50) and another one for the price (let’s say $300). This way, the shop owner won’t even have to find out how much does 1 gram out of a 50 kilogram bag of powdered milk will cost them.
Edited screenshots for illustration :
Then in a product page that makes use of powdered milk in its recipe (a cake for example), when we scroll down to the BOM section and add the powdered milk, there will be a new row named « unit » at the left of the « quantity » row that lets you choose in which unit you want to pick the amount you need for the specific recipe.
I hope we are getting this feature very very soon and that it will be at least as cool as i had it in my head.
Looking forward to your reply and thank you so much
