Hello,
my client's store has about 1500k variable products and about 1000k simple products.
I would like to set the simple products to be managed by WC at product level (I managed to do this using Stock Central and a lot of patience) and the variable products not to be managed by WP at product level but at variation level.
To me it seems this is the correct way to setup the plugin because:
1) a simple product ignores stock value if it's not managed by WC at product level
2) a variable product shows as out of stock if it's set as managed by WC at product level but stock value is 0 (which is the default value) and if the variations themselves are not managed by wc their stock amount is not shown when selected.
I find it hard to believe there are ATUM video clips on how to manually set up a product to achieve this set-up but there is no one-click button to setup the whole store in this way. There's no way I'ma edit 1500+ variable products manually. (for the simple products I managed to use the bulk select option and apply "WC manage stock" bulk action to them).
There are ways in which this could almost be done using stock central but it can't:
1) select all simple products and check them all and bulk manage by WC works ok.
2) There is no way to only selects the variations and not the variable products themselves, so there's no way to only set manage by WC to the variations.
Additionally, while trying to achieve the desired state I ran into two issues/bugs:
1) selecting 1000k products takes a lot of time as the script doing the bulk select in the background is extremely slow. So much so that firefox even asks multiple times if I'd like to kill the script that is freezing the tab.
2) There is a button in ATUM Settings in the Tools section. It's called set control to WC at product level for all products. I click it but the action results in a corrupted state of the products: on the front page they are shown as being in stock but when trying to add to cart a warning is displayed stating the product is out of stock. Simply entering the product in edit mode and saving it, finally shows the product as out of stock and behaves normally. ut this has to be done manually for each product which defeats the purpose of having the button there in the first place.
